About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Assistant to join our team. In this full-time, permanent position, you will provide essential care and support to nursing staff while engaging meaningfully with patients. Your responsibilities will include assisting with self-care activities, bed making, laundry assistance, room transfers, and escorting service users as needed. You will also assist with recovery programs and perform routine checks and enhanced observations as delegated.
As a vital member of our team, you will participate in handover sessions and remain informed about the health status, risks, vulnerabilities, and needs of all service users on the ward. Your contribution will be crucial in delivering high-quality service efficiently.
About the Team/Service/Location
You will be part of Haumaru Orite, a supra-regional acute psychiatric inpatient unit dedicated to the mental health needs of children and adolescents aged 0 to 18. This facility also includes a specialized three-bedded Mother and Baby Unit, providing inpatient care for individuals from Waitemata, Auckland, Counties Manukau, and Northland. Haumaru Orite is located on the first level of Starship Children's Hospital.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will need to hold a Level 4 Mental Health Support Worker certification. Additionally, you should be able to meet the physical demands of the position and have recent, relevant experience in a mental health setting. Experience working in a healthcare environment with diverse cultures is also essential.
