About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders, firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We are committed to providing excellent healthcare and fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects our community.
About the Role
We are currently seeking two full-time Social Workers for permanent positions at Te Toka Tumai - Auckland City Hospital. These roles are within the General Medicine and Neurosurgery departments, and we are looking for experienced Social Workers who have a background in a hospital environment.
The General Medicine position is fast-paced and involves assessing a wide range of complex social situations. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to facilitate safe discharges. Part of your responsibilities will include supporting whanau in applying to the Family Court when capacity is a concern, so familiarity with The Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act is desirable.
In the Neurosurgery role, you will utilize your trauma-informed skills to provide psychological, emotional, and practical support to patients and their whanau as they navigate life-changing diagnoses.
Both positions will focus on:
- Conducting comprehensive assessments and providing outcome-focused, innovative care using evidence-based practices and interventions.
- Collaborating effectively with medical, nursing, and allied health colleagues.
- Valuing relationships and maintaining strong networks with all stakeholders.
After completing a thorough orientation and becoming familiar with your role, you will join the after-hours, on-site, and on-call rosters. Substantial training and support specific to after-hours work will be provided.
About the Team
You will be part of a large Adult and Women's Health social work service that encourages collaboration and learning from one another.
About You
The ideal candidate for these roles will possess the following skills and attributes:
- A recognized Social Work qualification with full registration from the New Zealand Social Workers Registration Board and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
- The ability to navigate complex dynamics while keeping the best interests of patients and their whanau in focus.
- The capacity to work effectively in a bicultural hospital environment.
