About the Company
At Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Services (ARFPS), known as the Mason Clinic, we pride ourselves on being the largest Forensic Mental Health Service in New Zealand. Our facility is currently experiencing growth and expansion, with over 220 inpatient beds, making us the largest provider of mental health inpatient services on a single site in the country.
About the Team
Our mission is to address the needs of individuals facing significant mental health challenges and/or intellectual disabilities within the context of criminal offending. The ‘Mason Approach’ emphasizes the importance of providing respectful, safe, and inclusive services. We deliver recovery-focused and strengths-based care that is culturally safe, evidence-based, and aligned with our values. We are particularly committed to serving Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, as Māori tangata whai i te ora (people seeking wellness) and tangata whaikaha hinengaro (individuals with intellectual disabilities) constitute over half of our clientele.
About the Role
We are seeking a full-time Clinical Psychologist to join our Forensic Intellectual Disabilities Offender Liaison Service (IDOLS), which focuses on delivering services to individuals with intellectual disabilities in the community. This role involves assessing, treating, and supporting the recovery of those with mental illness or intellectual disabilities who have engaged with the criminal justice system or are at high risk in the community.
We welcome applications from registered Clinical Psychologists who are eager to practice in this specialized area, as well as those with existing experience in intellectual disabilities or forensic psychology. Additionally, a registered general scope Psychologist with qualifications in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) may also find this role suitable.
About You
As a psychologist at the Mason Clinic, you will be part of a dedicated team of fifteen psychologists responsible for psychological assessment, individual and group treatments, and consultation. You will conduct a range of psychological assessments and interventions for individuals with intellectual disabilities and offense histories. Responsibilities will also include providing consultation, supervision, and training to Mason Clinic staff, as well as participating in the design, delivery, and evaluation of group-based treatment programs. While the primary focus will be on intellectual disabilities, there will be opportunities to engage in other areas of the forensic service.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:
- A postgraduate degree in Clinical Psychology or ABA (or a recognized equivalent)
- Registration with the NZ Psychology Board as a Registered Psychologist with a Clinical Scope of Practice (or relevant specialist experience within the general Psychologist scope)
- A current practicing certificate
Benefits
Joining the largest Forensic Mental Health Service offers numerous opportunities for professional development and career advancement. We provide a competitive salary and cover the cost of professional registration in accordance with the Psychologists’ APEX Te Whatu Ora Collective Agreement (19 June 2023 - 30 June 2025).
Additionally, you will receive in-house training and supervision, along with funding for continuing professional development ranging from $2,500 to $4,500 per year, based on your experience. This funding can be used for attending overseas conferences (in-person or virtually), workshops, and resources such as books and subscriptions.
You will also have support from a Principal Psychologist at the Mason Clinic and a Professional Advisor for Psychology and Psychotherapy within the Te Whatu Ora Waitemata region.
