About the Company
At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders, guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our team at Waikato Hospital is dedicated to supporting frontline nursing services by creating high-quality staff rosters. We pride ourselves on being a small, friendly group that values collaboration and expertise in rostering practices.
About the Role
We are seeking a rosterer to join our centralized rostering service team at Waikato Hospital. In this role, you will work closely with clinical managers to develop rosters for frontline nursing and midwifery services. You will serve as a knowledgeable resource for other units, assisting them in establishing effective rostering practices and utilizing roster development tools. While our roster creation process is well-established, each cycle presents unique logistical challenges, allowing you to apply problem-solving skills to create balanced and effective rosters.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop staff rosters for frontline nursing and midwifery services supported by the centralized rostering service.
- Maintain accurate information for the portfolio of services you manage.
- Create a roster every four weeks for each service, considering service requirements, staff requests, employment conditions, and best practices.
- Collaborate with senior clinical managers to support the rostering process and foster professional relationships.
- Provide expert advice on rostering and the use of rostering tools and techniques within the organization.
- Engage in continuous improvement of personal and team practices to enhance the effectiveness and quality of our rosters and processes.
About the Team
You will be part of the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) at Te Whatu Ora Waikato district. Our team is small but knowledgeable, with extensive experience in rostering techniques. We constantly seek to improve our methods to deliver workable and balanced rosters. We are recognized as a source of expertise in rostering and are committed to supporting new rosterers as they develop their skills in managing their own portfolios.
About You
To excel in this role, you will need the following experience and professional attributes:
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- A mature and professional demeanor, demonstrating discretion and an understanding of confidentiality and privacy.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, enabling you to work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in using computer systems and applications, with a willingness to learn new technologies.
- A self-motivated attitude and a commitment to providing high-quality service, with a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
- A degree in administration, management, health sciences, or at least five years of experience in an administrative role.
- Previous experience in workforce planning or rostering in a complex environment such as healthcare is advantageous but not essential.
- A current New Zealand Driver's license is preferred but not required.
Our priority is to find individuals who possess the right skills and attitude to be a great fit for our team. We will provide full training for those who may not have extensive experience.
