Description
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is deeply committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, striving to build a health system that serves all New Zealanders effectively. We are dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare and fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Specialist Intensivist to join our team and deliver high-quality care to the Northland community. The successful candidate will be a vital part of the Department of Intensive Care Medicine, engaging in the teaching and training of resident medical staff and participating in the consultant on-call roster for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Our modern ICU comprises nine beds and handles approximately 525 patient admissions annually, with over 40% of those requiring mechanical ventilation. We also provide an outreach service, and our department is accredited for training by the College of Intensive Care Medicine. Our current team consists of eight intensivists, operating on a 1:9 roster, supported by eight registrars and one senior house officer available 24/7. Each day, we encounter a diverse range of cases, including pediatric patients and major trauma incidents. Additionally, we provide medical and nursing support for our busy flight retrieval service in collaboration with Northern Rescue Helicopter Limited, overseeing around 480 helicopter transfers each year.
About the Location
The Northland region is known for its warm climate and is often referred to as the "winterless north." It offers excellent schooling options, affordable housing, and beautiful coastal areas that provide a variety of recreational activities. We are conveniently located just a two-hour drive or a 25-minute flight from Auckland, New Zealand's international hub. For more information about our stunning location, please click here.
