We believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce, enabling us to better understand and meet the needs of our community. We actively encourage applications from Māori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join our department at Whangarei Hospital. Our department provides a comprehensive range of general Obstetrics and Gynaecology services, with established links to the Auckland district for Gynaecological Oncology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Tertiary Neonatal Care, and Tertiary Fertility. Each year, our facilities in Northland accommodate over 2,000 births.
In this role, you will be part of a 1:8 roster, covering acute Obstetrics and Gynaecology across our three rural hospitals. You will work closely with House Officers and 1-2 advanced trainees, taking an active role in managing acute cases and providing direct, hands-on patient care. We are looking for someone who is motivated and enthusiastic about working in the public health sector, with a positive, solution-oriented attitude.
In return, we offer extensive hands-on experience in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology, along with opportunities to develop special interests. Our department is known for its strong collegial relationships, providing ample teaching and learning opportunities for our team. Many of our House Officers complete the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Diploma, and some progress to the registrar training programme. We also have the privilege of teaching 5th and 6th year medical students from the University of Auckland.
About the Location
Whangarei, located in the "winterless north," boasts a warm climate, excellent schools, and affordable housing. The area is surrounded by scenic coastal landscapes that offer a variety of recreational activities. We are conveniently situated just a two-hour drive or a 25-minute flight from Auckland, New Zealand's international hub.
