About the Role Whangarei Hospital features eight operating theatres and a procedure room located within the theatre suite, as well as a two-room endoscopy suite. It is the primary provider of surgical services for Northland, offering a comprehensive range of surgical sub-specialties and all emergency surgery for the region. This role presents a varied and challenging case mix, including a high volume of complex planned surgeries alongside a busy trauma service. The Department of Anaesthesia is the largest within the Surgical Service in Northland, providing round-the-clock services to Whangarei Hospital and managing planned surgeries at Kaitaia Hospital. As a consultant, you will join a team of approximately 30 Specialist Anaesthetists, along with Anaesthetic Senior House Officers and Registrars who rotate from the Auckland region as part of their training. Our team collaborates with skilled anaesthetic technicians and other healthcare professionals. We are seeking a motivated consultant to deliver high-quality anaesthetic services to the Northland community. This role also offers opportunities to teach and train resident medical staff and students. About You To be considered for this position, you must possess or be eligible for specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in an Anaesthesia Vocational scope of practice.
