Description
Trainee/Non-Trainee Registrar, Anaesthetic Department - Rotorua Hospital
We invite you to consider joining our team at Lakes for your 2026 Training Year. Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Company
At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we strive to provide excellent healthcare services to our community. We recognize the importance of diversity and inclusivity within our workforce, allowing us to better understand and meet the needs of the populations we serve. We welcome applications from individuals across our diverse Māori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.
About the Role
We are looking for a trainee or non-trainee registrar to join our Anaesthetics Department. This role offers the unique advantage of working within a smaller hospital setting, where you will gain experience in both general and acute medicine alongside a supportive team of consultants, house officers, medical students, and nursing staff. Our roster is designed to provide you with ample opportunity to explore and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Rotorua, known for its longer summers and shorter winters.
About the Location
Our Anaesthetic Department at Lakes serves a population of approximately 116,000 people and is situated within Rotorua Hospital, which provides secondary level specialties, with access to tertiary care at Waikato Hospital. We are part of the Te Manawa Taki/Midlands Anaesthesia Training Rotation, which includes Tauranga and Waikato Hospitals. Applying for this position also serves as an application for the training rotation. Appointments are made collectively by the Rotational Supervisor and Supervisors of Training as part of a rotational committee. Typically, candidates progress to Waikato Hospital to continue their training after a year at Rotorua Hospital.
Lakes is located in the central North Island of New Zealand, approximately 230 kilometers southeast of Auckland and about 80 kilometers south of Taupo. This region is renowned for its geothermal wonders and scenic lakes, including Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest lake. Rotorua and Taupo offer numerous outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and water sports, along with opportunities to engage with and learn about the rich Māori culture in the area.
About You
We are seeking candidates who possess the following qualifications:
- Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or eligibility for general or provisional general registration. You can confirm your eligibility by visiting the MCNZ website.
- Completion of at least two years of clinical experience post-graduation.
- For applicants from outside New Zealand and Australia, prior anaesthetic training experience is required.
- We ask that you share your ranking of the New Zealand anaesthetic rotations you have applied to, as this will be discussed nationally.
