About the Role
We are looking for a Trainee or non-training registrar to join our Psychiatry department. You will experience the advantages of working in a smaller hospital while engaging in both general and acute medicine. Our supportive team includes consultants, house officers, medical students, and nursing staff.
Your roster is designed to allow you to fully enjoy all that Rotorua has to offer, including its longer summers and shorter winters. Our Mental Health Addiction Services cover a wide range of specialized units and programs, such as:
- Ace Response Team (ART)
- Whare Whakaue Inpatient Unit
- Te Ngako Community Mental Health and Addictions
- South Lakes Community Mental Health and Addictions
- Mental Health Services for Older Persons (MHSOP)
- Infant, Child, and Adolescent Mental Health Service (iCAMHS)
- Consultation-Liaison Service
- Mental Health Triage

About the Location
Our dynamic team at the Lakes Psychiatry Department serves a population of 116,000 people. Located within Rotorua Hospital, we provide secondary level specialties, with tertiary care available at Waikato Hospital.
Lakes is situated in the central North Island of New Zealand. Rotorua is approximately 230 kilometers southeast of Auckland, while Taupo is about 80 kilometers south of Rotorua. Known as a geothermal wonderland, Lakes is home to several scenic lakes, including Lake Taupo, the largest lake in New Zealand. Rotorua and Taupo are popular destinations for hiking, mountain biking, and water sports, as well as for exploring traditional experiences and learning about Māori culture.

About You
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or eligibility for general or provisional general registration. You can verify your eligibility by visiting the MCNZ website.
- A minimum of two years of clinical experience post-graduation.
- Previous anaesthetic training experience if you are applying from outside New Zealand or Australia.
