About the Role We are currently seeking skilled Brick and Block Layers for permanent positions with our client, an award-winning team recognized for their high-quality brick and block laying services throughout Christchurch. This role offers a diverse mix of residential and commercial projects, allowing you to enhance your skills while working in various settings. Wages We offer competitive compensation: - $38 per hour when on wages - $50 per hour for contract work These rates are negotiable based on your experience and attitude. Location This position is based in Christchurch. What’s In It For You - Attractive pay rates: $38 wages or $50 contract - Opportunity to work with an award-winning team in Canterbury - A mix of residential and commercial projects - Encouragement for upskilling and career progression - A supportive crew and stable work environment What You Will Be Doing In this role, you will be responsible for: - Accurately setting out work areas and laying foundations - Measuring, cutting, and laying bricks and blocks to ensure they are level and plumb - Mixing, applying, and finishing mortar correctly - Constructing walls, partitions, arches, and decorative features - Carrying out joint finishing, including striking, weathering, and pointing - Repairing and restoring brick and block structures - Reading and interpreting building plans and specifications - Supporting safe work practices on every site What We Require To be considered for this role, you should have: - A minimum of 2 years' experience in brick or block laying, with ideally 3+ years (including apprenticeship or on-site learning) - The ability to lay bricks and blocks level and plumb - Your own hand tools - Proficiency in reading and interpreting building plans and specifications - Understanding of the New Zealand Building Code and relevant standards - A current New Zealand driver’s license and reliable transport - Either New Zealand residency or a valid New Zealand work visa - A valid Site Safe certification (preferred, we can assist with this) - The ability to pass a drug test and Ministry of Justice check - A strong work ethic and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team It is essential that all applicants have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
