    Description

About the Company At Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand, we are dedicated to putting people at the heart of everything we do. We manage the day-to-day operations of the health system throughout New Zealand, integrating the functions of the 20 former District Health Boards into our regional divisions and district offices. Our goal is to ensure continuity of services across all levels of the health system. About the Role We are currently seeking a full-time, permanent Forensic Psychiatrist to join our team. In this role, you will work within a multidisciplinary environment alongside five other Forensic Psychiatrists, providing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment in various settings, including hospitals, outpatient facilities, the wider community, courts, and corrections. We are also open to considering candidates interested in part-time positions. While prior forensic experience is valued, it is not a requirement for this position. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to explore a career in Forensic Psychiatry in a supportive environment, where you will receive supervision and guidance, especially in new areas of practice such as court work and legal issues. The Team Our Canterbury Regional Forensic Mental Health Service serves a population of approximately 700,000 across the South Island. We offer a full range of forensic treatment options, including medium secure and rehabilitation inpatient facilities based at Hillmorton Hospital, as well as services in the wider community, courts, probation, and outreach programs. Our Regional Forensic Service also provides consultation and liaison to Nelson, Marlborough, the West Coast, and South Canterbury, with two secure units and one open rehabilitation unit that offer a total of 35 inpatient beds. We work closely with a community-based service designed to provide extensive clinical input and support for individuals transitioning back into the community. Positive Employee Feedback One of our locum consultants recently shared their experience working with the Forensic Service: "I finish here tomorrow after three months. The service is well-resourced with very capable multi-disciplinary teams who work hard to support our clientele and each other. Because of the level of resourcing, the risks are well-mitigated, which makes it a safe place to work. Even in just a few months, I have found that psychiatrist input is greatly appreciated by the teams. There are also excellent Health Learn resources to assist a non-forensic psychiatrist in getting started, and the teams were very helpful in bringing me up to speed." Our Culture: What Matters to Us At Te Whatu Ora, we believe that health is fundamentally about people. We value the care and respect we show towards one another, the responsibility we take for delivering positive outcomes, and the integrity with which we conduct our work. Belonging Here As part of Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand, our employees benefit from flexible working arrangements and a strong emphasis on career development. We are committed to diversity and inclusion, recognizing that these principles are essential to providing the best care for our diverse population. We strive to be an inclusive and equal-opportunity employer, welcoming and respecting everyone.
