About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified practitioner to join our Acute Social Work services in a full-time permanent position (0.8 FTE) within Waikato Hospital. This role is situated in the Emergency Department, which is part of our Critical Care team.
You will work from Tuesday to Friday, with hours from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about promoting health equity for Māori and Pacific populations, we would love to hear from you.

About the Team/Service
Our Social Work team provides services across various specialties, including Emergency Department, Critical Care, Medicine, Surgery, Women's Health, Paediatrics, Older Persons Rehabilitation, Renal, Oncology, and Community. While our team operates within diverse health services in both hospital and community settings throughout the Waikato district, we maintain a professional reporting structure to a manager within our Allied Health Service.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will need the following qualifications and experience:
- A qualification in social work and at least 3 years of experience as a social worker
- Registration as a social worker with the New Zealand Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB)
- A current annual practicing certificate
- A valid driver’s license
Additionally, the following competencies are essential:
- Psycho-social assessment and intervention
- Intimate partner violence screening, assessment, and intervention
- Child protection and vulnerable adult assessment and intervention
- Ability to navigate access to a diverse range of resources and support services
- A commitment to bicultural practice
- Knowledge of the emotional and social impacts of changing health status
- Crisis management and intervention skills
- Case management skills
- Advocacy skills
