About the Role
We are excited to offer a rewarding opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join our Puawai Regional Forensic Psychiatric Prison team. In this role, you will conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and develop evidence-informed treatment plans for tangata whaiora.
Additionally, this position includes the chance to learn the skills necessary for writing court reports related to fitness to stand trial, insanity, and dispositions under CPMIPA. You will receive close supervision and support as you develop these competencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, including psychometric evaluations, risk assessments, and therapeutic interventions.
- Develop collaborative and holistic treatment plans, providing both individual and group therapy in partnership with multidisciplinary teams.
- Create informed psychological formulations based on detailed assessments.
- Offer clinical supervision, consultation, and advice to the multidisciplinary team.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position will be determined based on experience, in accordance with the APEX Psychologists Collective Agreement or the PSA Allied, Public Health, Scientific and Technical Collective Agreement. Additional benefits include contributions to KiwiSaver (if eligible), opportunities for professional development, and wellness support.

About You
To be considered for this role, you must be registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board under the clinical scope and hold a current annual practicing certificate.
We seek individuals who are committed to improving Māori health outcomes and who support Māori leadership and decision-making processes in the pursuit of health equity. Familiarity with hauora Māori models of care and mātauranga Māori is essential.
You should have experience working with tangata whaiora in mental health settings, and prior experience with forensic clients or within the correctional system would be advantageous. As this role requires regular travel to prisons, a current driver's license is necessary.
