Description
About the Company
At Gisborne Hospital, part of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are committed to delivering exceptional healthcare to all New Zealanders. Guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, we strive to create a health system that is inclusive and equitable. Our location in Gisborne offers a unique opportunity to serve a tight-knit community while enjoying a balanced lifestyle in a stunning coastal environment.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Otolaryngologist to join our team in Gisborne. This role provides an opportunity to deliver high-quality clinical care while taking on a leadership position within our dedicated department.
Gisborne, also known as Turanganui-a-Kiwa, is a small city with a population of approximately 50,000. It is renowned for its natural beauty, world-class surf breaks, and a pleasant Mediterranean climate, making it ideal for those who appreciate a laid-back lifestyle. With no traffic lights in town, commuting is a breeze, allowing you to fully enjoy life outside of work.
Our hospital features 100 beds and is staffed by both senior and junior doctors. While we handle many routine cases, more complex and critically ill patients are referred to tertiary centers. As part of a collaborative team of three Otolaryngologists, you will work to enhance health outcomes and equitable care for our Maori and Pasifika populations, supported by a Clinical Nurse Specialist and an Audiologist.
In this role, you will see a diverse range of patients and perform various procedures, including endoscopic sinus surgery, middle ear surgery, facial skin cancer surgery, and pediatric ENT procedures. Major head and neck surgeries are performed at Waikato Hospital. You will also have the opportunity to educate and supervise surgical staff and medical students.
There is significant scope for developing subspecialist interests that align with the department's current services and address unmet community needs. We pride ourselves on maintaining strong relationships with other departments and allied health professionals, as well as having close ties to tertiary services. Our department is well-equipped to support all aspects of modern ENT healthcare.
About the Team/Service/Location
Joining Gisborne Hospital means becoming part of a close-knit team that values work-life balance and the opportunity to practice medicine in a vibrant community. Our 100-bed facility offers a wide range of specialties, providing diverse and engaging opportunities for professional growth.
