About the Role
We are seeking a qualified Consultant Paediatrician to join our dedicated team of five specialists in a vibrant seaside community of New Zealand. Our paediatric service is a small, dynamic team that focuses on delivering effective inpatient, outpatient, and community services to a diverse population of approximately 52,000, with around 50% being of Māori ethnicity.
In this role, you will work closely with the wider paediatric team, providing care for neonates, acutely unwell children, and those with chronic diseases and behavioral disorders. Our facility includes a level 2 Neonatal Unit supported by tertiary services from Waikato.
The position requires an average commitment of 80 hours per fortnight, with participation in an on-call roster that includes evenings and weekends. Call responsibilities will be shared among staff based on a mutually agreed departmental schedule, typically following a one in six roster, though this may vary based on staffing and leave considerations.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess experience in a peripheral center, and familiarity with Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti is preferred.
Key qualifications and skills include:
- Valid qualifications and registration as a Paediatrician with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or nearing completion of advanced training
- Proficient in modern investigative and treatment techniques relevant to paediatrics
- Ability to make informed decisions in a high-risk, rural environment
- Competence to work autonomously while fostering collegial relationships
- Strong team collaboration skills, with excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Capacity to manage a varied and high workload, including emergency situations
- Awareness of Quality Assurance and a commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement
- Sensitivity to cultural issues and commitment to the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Experience working in a culturally diverse environment
- Flexibility and a positive approach as a team player
- Conflict resolution skills
- A current driving license valid in New Zealand
- Agreement to maintain a Professional Indemnity (Medical Defence) policy for professional negligence claims
