About the Role
We are seeking an Orthopaedic Surgeon with expertise in general orthopaedics and trauma for a fixed-term appointment of six months, starting from January 1, 2026. We are open to job sharing arrangements to meet the full-time equivalent service requirements.
Position Description - Orthopaedic Surgeon
About the Team/Service/Location
Gisborne Hospital serves as the primary healthcare facility for the Tairawhiti region, which extends along the East Cape of New Zealand. This location offers a diverse range of clinical opportunities for an enthusiastic and skilled general surgeon. Our hospital caters to a population of approximately 50,000 and is supported by comprehensive medical and surgical services, including on-site diagnostic facilities such as a new MRI scanner and CT scanner.
Our department provides general, acute, and elective care, with current sub-specialty interests that include Hip and Knee Arthroplasty, Pediatrics, and Sports Surgery. We are looking for a colleague whose sub-specialty interest can complement and enhance our existing services.
About You
To join our team, you will need to meet the following criteria:
- Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the New Zealand Medical Council, or eligibility for registration that allows you to practice medicine in New Zealand.
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in managing a variety of orthopaedic conditions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to form partnerships and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Competency in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or a commitment to starting your learning journey in these areas.
- Experience in initiatives that align with the principles of Te Tiriti and apply Matauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly in healthcare settings.
