Position Description | ED Registrar
About the Team/Service/Location
The Gisborne Emergency Department is staffed by a group of FACEM or vocationally registered emergency specialists, working alongside urgent care doctors to provide care for approximately 25,000 patients each year, with a 25% admission rate. We frequently handle high acuity medical cases, trauma, and pediatric patients. Our experienced specialists are committed to teaching and provide substantial support, along with numerous procedural opportunities for our registrars.
Gisborne Hospital is a 110-bed acute care facility that serves a wide geographical area, including Tairawhiti and the East Cape of New Zealand. We support a population of 54,000 and are well-equipped with comprehensive surgical services and advanced diagnostic facilities, including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner. Our strong partnerships with the tertiary referral center in Waikato enhance the quality of care we provide.
Located on the eastern coast of New Zealand's North Island, Gisborne is known for its stunning natural beauty, including golden sand beaches, bush-clad mountains, and lush farmlands. The region offers a rich history, remarkable landmarks, and a deep connection to Māori culture. We enjoy a pleasant climate, short commutes, and a relaxed lifestyle that allows for an enviable work-life balance.
At Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti, we are focused on enhancing collaboration, strengthening leadership, and improving equity of access and outcomes across the health service. Our emphasis on primary and community care enables more individuals to receive care close to home while taking charge of their health and well-being.
