About the Role
We are seeking a Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our team. In this role, you will provide specialist eye care across four outpatient clinics and conduct two operating lists each week. Your responsibilities will include performing general ophthalmology assessments, administering YAG and Argon laser treatments, and participating in the on-call roster, which involves one night per week and one weekend every four weeks.
You will also have the opportunity to teach and mentor junior doctors while contributing to ongoing quality improvement initiatives and service development. Furthermore, you will engage in patient-focused multidisciplinary care planning and provide timely, expert clinical advice to your colleagues and the wider healthcare team. Our ophthalmology service is a close-knit team operating within the broader surgical department at Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti. About You
To excel in this role, you will need:
- Vocational or Provisional Vocational Registration in Ophthalmology with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Experience in general ophthalmology and familiarity with modern investigative and treatment techniques
- A current Annual Practicing Certificate
- A collaborative and compassionate approach to patient care
- A commitment to equity, quality improvement, and culturally safe practice
