About the Role We are looking for an experienced and passionate Midwife Clinical Coach to join our team in a part-time permanent role (0.7 FTE) with rostered shifts. In this impactful position, you will support the next generation of midwifery professionals by providing expert clinical education and guidance to midwives at various stages of their careers. This role offers a unique opportunity to foster professional development, enhance clinical skills, and promote culturally safe, evidence-informed practice in a supportive environment. Purpose of the Position As a Midwife Clinical Coach, your primary responsibility will be to support new graduate midwives (Midwifery First Year of Practice - MFYP), midwives returning to practice, and those seeking to refresh their clinical skills. Your expertise will help them navigate their clinical transitions, ensuring their growth into confident and competent practitioners. You will also promote a learning environment that enhances staff retention and reduces stress through structured coaching, education, and support. Key Responsibilities - Clinical Coaching: Provide one-on-one and group coaching to midwives, enhancing their clinical skills and confidence in practice. - Mentorship: Serve as a role model for clinical excellence and culturally safe practice, helping midwives achieve their individual learning goals. - Education and Orientation: Assist with the orientation and clinical support for new staff and midwives entering the maternity service. - Program Development: Contribute to the development and enhancement of the midwifery new graduate program to ensure high-quality support for new midwives. - Collaboration with Education Providers: Build strong relationships with tertiary institutions to facilitate a smooth transition from education to practice for students. - Cultural Support: Identify Māori and Pacific midwives who may benefit from additional cultural support and connect them with relevant resources. - Quality Improvement: Advocate for and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives within the maternity service. - Critical Thinking Development: Encourage midwives to develop critical thinking skills, enabling them to provide the best possible care for women and their whānau. Requirements - New Zealand Registered Midwife with a current Annual Practicing Certificate. - A minimum of 5 years of recent experience post-registration. - At least 2 years of inpatient clinical experience.
