Description
About the Company
We are excited to announce the opening of a new residential home in Upper Hutt, dedicated to providing quality support for individuals with disabilities. Our mission is to create a nurturing environment where our residents can thrive and enjoy fulfilling lives. We are currently seeking a dedicated team of Community Support Workers to join us in this important work.
About the Role
As a Community Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in the lives of three young adults—two men and one woman—aged between 19 and 30. We welcome applications from individuals seeking full-time, part-time, or casual positions, with shifts available during the day or overnight.
Your primary responsibility will be to support the flatmates in their daily lives, helping them to build trust and foster relationships with their families. You will assist them in exploring new opportunities within their home and community. We value humor, warmth, and good energy, all of which are essential in creating a fun and engaging atmosphere for our residents.
Communication with the flatmates may occur through gestures, words, vocalizations, facial expressions, or various communication devices, making patience and intuition key skills for this role. Your efforts will contribute to transforming the new house into a true home, allowing these individuals to maintain connections with their families and enjoy everything their neighborhood has to offer.
As the flatmates have physical support needs, your responsibilities will include providing intimate care, such as assisting with toileting and showering. It is vital to approach these tasks with respect and sensitivity, ensuring the comfort and dignity of the residents while empowering them to have a voice in their care. Being physically fit to assist with mobility, including wheelchair support and participating in activities like swimming, is also important.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Experience supporting individuals with disabilities
- Reliability, respectfulness, and intuition
- Willingness to support current abilities while teaching new skills
- Ability to identify and facilitate activities that bring joy to the residents
- Adaptability to unique communication styles
- Initiative and motivation to collaborate with each flatmate in creating personal goal plans
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency with email, internet searching, and word processing
- A full driver’s license is preferred
Benefits
In return for your dedication and hard work, we offer:
- Ongoing professional development and study opportunities, including support in achieving NZQA Health and Wellbeing qualifications
- A meaningful and life-changing career
- A vibrant and dynamic workplace where every day brings new experiences
- Competitive pay rates ranging from $23.50 to $29.10 per hour
