About the Role
We are currently seeking a Community Support Worker for a permanent part-time position, offering 32 hours per week, with a pay range of $23.50 to $29.10 per hour. This role is based in the Hutt Valley area, and as a Permanent Reliever, you will have the chance to work across multiple residential sites based on the varying staffing needs.
In this position, you will engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with differing support requirements. Our aim is to empower those with intellectual disabilities to achieve their goals, providing guidance rather than simply doing things for them. We are looking for individuals who are observant, possess strong listening skills, and appreciate the value of diversity.
We seek team members who are energetic, willing to participate actively, and adaptable in their communication styles to meet the unique needs of those we support.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- Empathy for the challenges faced by individuals living with disabilities.
- The energy to keep up with active individuals.
- A calm demeanor and the ability to provide a reassuring presence in various situations.
- Resilience to maintain boundaries that ensure safety.
- Strong skills in explanation and negotiation.
- Effective and supportive communication with family members, colleagues, and the individuals receiving support.
- A willingness to assist with personal care and daily living skills.
Additionally, we are looking for candidates who have:
- An interest in obtaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or higher qualification. We are committed to supporting you in achieving this while you work.
- Experience in supporting individuals with disabilities, mental health issues, or challenging behaviors is preferred but not mandatory.
- Reliability, commitment, and a genuine passion for working with people.
- A full New Zealand driver's license, which is essential for this role.
- The ability to pass a New Zealand police check.
- Proficiency in computer use, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and email.
If you are a non-resident applying for this role, please ensure you meet the INZ Level 3 skill requirements, which include:
- A minimum of 24 months of experience in the care workforce, paid at the care workforce wage rate, or
- A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF), with at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.
