About the Role
We are seeking a Family Store Collection Assistant to join our Southland Family Store Group. This role is crucial to our stores' success, as it involves ensuring that donated goods are collected and delivered efficiently, safely, and in a timely manner. You will play a key role in providing an excellent experience for both customers and donors, which encourages repeat visits.
Key Responsibilities
In this position, you will be responsible for:
- Delivering exceptional customer service to both customers and donors.
- Completing collections and deliveries of goods according to a daily schedule.
- Planning and scheduling efficient routes to optimize store operations.
- Safely loading, unloading, and stacking goods.
- Conducting daily vehicle checks and maintaining the vehicle to a high standard.
- Adhering to company policies and standard operating procedures, with a strong focus on health and safety.
- Assisting with general duties within the Family Stores as needed.
Person Specification
We are looking for a resilient, positive, and people-oriented team player who can connect with individuals from various backgrounds. The ideal candidate will possess:
- A full, current, clean New Zealand driver's license (Class 1) and confidence in operating a small truck, including basic maintenance.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work closely with colleagues to meet targets.
- Physical fitness to handle regular heavy lifting, as this is a daily requirement of the role.
- Self-management skills to stay on task and adjust priorities under pressure.
- Strong spatial awareness, quick thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Clear communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in using various retail and communications technologies.
- An ethical approach to work, fostering respect, honesty, and transparency while upholding the values of The Salvation Army.
- Comfort working within established procedures while exercising sound judgment when needed.
- The legal right to work in New Zealand. All employment offers are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory Ministry of Justice clearance/police check.

Hours of Work
This is a permanent part-time role requiring 15 variable hours per week. Please note that our Family Stores operate on public holidays. The starting hourly rate for this position is $27.80.
