About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Anaesthetist for a permanent part-time position, working 0.75 FTE (60 hours per fortnight) with an on-call allowance. This role offers a rewarding opportunity for those looking to achieve a great work-life balance while contributing to high-quality perioperative care.
As a vital member of our Anaesthesia team, you will engage in both elective and acute services, ensuring safe and effective patient outcomes across a variety of surgical specialties. You will collaborate with a well-respected team, which includes sixteen experienced Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) and one ANZCA trainee, alongside a highly competent surgical and ICU team.
Your responsibilities will include participating in the anaesthetic roster, providing support for planned and acute theatre sessions, offering after-hours anaesthesia on-call support, conducting anaesthetic pre-assessment clinics, and acting as the duty anaesthetist. About the Team/Service/Location
Our Anaesthesia team in Nelson consists of experienced consultants, one registrar, and skilled anaesthetic technicians. We take pride in fostering a collegial environment that emphasizes strong interdisciplinary collaboration and a commitment to continuous learning.
The Anaesthesia service supports several departments, including Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dental, Mental Health, and the Emergency department. Additionally, we provide anaesthesia for visiting subspecialty surgeons in Paediatric Surgery, Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastics, and Maxillofacial Surgery.

About You
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Clinical expertise relevant to a smaller provincial hospital and a commitment to providing care for the patients in the Nelson region.
- Eligibility for an Annual Practicing Certificate with a vocational scope of Anaesthesia from the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) or an equivalent qualification.
- A collaborative mindset that promotes a cohesive team culture, characterized by openness, humor, and respect across disciplines.
