About the Role We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Consultant General Physician to join our dynamic and collaborative team at Nelson Hospital. This position is available on a permanent, part-time or full-time basis, ranging from 0.8FTE to 1.0FTE (64 to 80 hours per fortnight), with a 1:8 or greater on-call callback allowance. As part of our collegial and supportive team, you will work alongside experienced physicians with diverse subspecialty interests, including cardiology, respiratory medicine, nephrology, and gastroenterology. Our team collaborates closely with nursing staff, allied health professionals, and primary care providers to ensure an integrated approach to patient care. About the Team/Service/Location Nelson Hospital is a modern, 150-bed secondary care facility that serves the top of the South Island. We offer a vibrant working environment with a strong focus on delivering quality patient outcomes. Our service provides a comprehensive range of general medical care across acute and inpatient settings, supported by a well-resourced multidisciplinary team. As a key member of our medical services, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to the Nelson region. About You The successful candidate will: - Practice varied and interesting medicine while working with a supportive multidisciplinary team. - Deliver quality services aimed at improving the health of the population in Nelson. - Participate in the general medicine acute roster, averaging 4 hours of on-call duty per week. - Teach and develop our growing junior medical workforce. - Actively contribute to the critical design of our newly approved 225 clinical services block. - Enjoy the opportunity to achieve a work/life balance in one of New Zealand's most sought-after regions. Skills and Experience The ideal applicant will: - Bring general medical expertise and experience to an acute secondary care hospital, contributing to advanced care for both inpatients and outpatients in the region. - Have subspecialty interests in areas such as respiratory medicine, rheumatology, or stroke medicine, although all areas will be considered. - Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or an equivalent qualification. - Be eligible for an Annual Practising Certificate and vocational scope of Internal Medicine/Rural Hospital Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand. - Work collaboratively to promote a cohesive team culture that values openness, humor, and respect across disciplines. - Demonstrate a commitment to continuing medical education and professional development. - Be competent in te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori, or be committed to starting this journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth. - Have experience in initiatives that align with the principles and frameworks of Te Tiriti, particularly in healthcare settings, applying Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches.
