About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon to join our orthopaedic team at Nelson Hospital. Our team provides a comprehensive range of services, including trauma care, elective procedures, and specialist treatment. You will collaborate with experienced surgeons, nurses, and allied health professionals who are all committed to achieving excellent outcomes for our diverse patient population. As a key member of our orthopaedic services, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to the Nelson-Marlborough region. This position is part-time at 0.7 FTE, equating to 56 hours per fortnight, with a 1:6 on-call allowance. About You The successful candidate will: - Provide comprehensive orthopaedic care, including consultation, diagnosis, and treatment for both trauma and elective cases. - Perform surgical interventions with precision, prioritizing patient safety at all times. - Participate in the on-call roster to address acute orthopaedic emergencies. - Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans. - Engage in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the department's clinical governance. - Offer teaching and mentorship to junior doctors and medical students. - Stay current with advancements in orthopaedic care and introduce innovative practices to the department. Skills and Experience To be considered for this role, candidates should possess: - Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons or an equivalent qualification. - Eligibility for an Annual Practising Certificate with a vocational scope of Orthopaedic Surgery from the Medical Council of New Zealand. - Proven expertise in both trauma and elective orthopaedic procedures. - Subspecialty interest in areas such as upper limb arthroplasty, spine, or pediatrics is advantageous. - Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with patients and colleagues. - A commitment to teamwork, patient-centered care, and continuous professional development. - Competency in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or a willingness to begin your learning journey. - Experience with projects or initiatives that promote the principles of Te Tiriti and the application of mātauranga Māori and kaupapa Māori approaches in healthcare settings.
