About the Role
As a Drainage Foreman, you will lead and manage a dedicated team of 4 to 6 professionals on large, complex drainage projects throughout the region. This position is hands-on and client-facing, requiring your planning, leadership, and construction expertise to ensure that projects are executed smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
In this role, you will be involved in all aspects of project management, from developing work plans to overseeing subcontractors, enforcing health and safety standards, and stepping in to assist your team when necessary.
What You Will Do
- Lead and manage a team of 4-6 drainage operators, ensuring work is conducted safely and efficiently.
- Develop work plans and methodologies to keep projects on schedule.
- Drive productivity on-site by ensuring that materials, equipment, and resources are well-organized.
- Liaise with subcontractors to facilitate smooth project operations.
- Set up and implement health and safety processes to maintain a safe working environment.
- Plan and schedule daily tasks to achieve project goals and deadlines.
- Be hands-on when required, including operating machinery or providing support to your team.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a strong leadership group focused on excellence within the civil construction industry. While the role is primarily based in Christchurch, travel to various projects across New Zealand may be necessary.
Do You Have What It Takes?
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug test.
- Valid rights to work in New Zealand.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in civil construction, specifically in drainage work.
- Strong knowledge of stormwater, water reticulation, and wastewater systems.
- Familiarity with bypass pumping, dewatering, and trench shoring techniques.
- Understanding of drainage specifications and industry best practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven experience in leading teams and effectively managing personnel.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining a safe site.
- A clean Class 1 driver's license, WTR endorsement, and experience operating machinery.
- A positive attitude and a sense of humor to contribute to our team culture.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a Class B Approved Asbestos Removal Supervisor qualification, which would be an added advantage.
