About the Role
We are looking to appoint a Rural Hospital Medicine Registrar for a fixed term from May to August 2025. This position will involve covering our Emergency Department and Inpatient Ward at Hawera Hospital. The role has been accredited as a training position for specialist qualification by the RNZCGP.
The duration of this position is three months, and the areas covered will include the Hawera Inpatient Ward and the Hawera Emergency Department.
Duties
As a Registrar, you will be responsible to your supervising consultant for the daily clinical management of inpatients. This includes the admission and clerking of acute cases, participation in ward rounds, and routine ward work. You will also instigate treatments and manage patients in the Emergency Department under the direction or supervision of the Consultant or Medical Officer of Special Scale (MOSS).
You will be a vital member of our interdisciplinary team in both inpatient and outpatient settings. After hours, you will report to the supervising ED Consultant or MOSS on duty. Additionally, you will assist in audit preparation and execution and undertake research as agreed with the Clinical Lead.
Hours and Salary
The average weekly hours for this position range from 45 to 49.9 hours. The salary band for this role is classified as Category C.
About the Team/Service/Location
Our team consists of one Rural Hospital Consultant on duty each day, along with one Rural Hospital Registrar or Rural Hospital Medicine House Officer (minimum PGY 2) in either the inpatient ward or the Emergency Department. A Consultant or MOSS is available in the Hawera Emergency Department around the clock.
