Tradestaff Global is currently seeking expressions of interest from experienced Flooring Installers for a unique opportunity at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. This position is available for the upcoming summer season, which runs from October 2025 to March 2026.
About the Role
We invite dedicated professionals to join us for this extraordinary experience. The deployment is anticipated to begin around October, with return dates to be confirmed at a later stage. Working in Antarctica presents challenges, but it also offers the chance to stay in one of the most isolated yet breathtaking locations in the world.
In this role, you will be part of a large commercial construction project focused on interior flooring installation. Your responsibilities will include preparation work, base leveling, laying carpet tiles, rolled vinyl flooring, and ensuring clean and accurate finishes throughout the project. While the tasks may vary, they can also be repetitive, so precision and consistency are essential. Experience in commercial flooring installation is a requirement for this role.
Requirements
Please note that due to travel restrictions, only New Zealand and US citizens with New Zealand or US passports who are currently and permanently residing and working in New Zealand are eligible to apply.
Additionally, candidates must be willing to receive the Flu, Tdap, and MMR vaccinations. The positions require a commitment to long hours, working six days a week, and you will not be able to participate in a fly-in, fly-out arrangement.
Start dates are approximate and will depend on passing medical and dental checks, receiving security clearance, your notice period, and ice flight availability. You must also successfully complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. A Full Class 1 New Zealand Driver Licence and a clean criminal record are mandatory.
Candidates should be prepared for a lengthy application process, requiring patience and attention to detail. Medical and dental exams will be conducted in Tauranga, and we will cover the costs of testing and flights for applicants traveling from outside the Bay of Plenty.
Benefits
We offer competitive compensation at a rate of $66.11 per hour, with payment made on a contract basis, paid fortnightly in New Zealand dollars for a total of 54 hours a week. We will provide flights from any major New Zealand airport, food, shared accommodation, and travel insurance. All necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) will be supplied.
