Description
About the Company
At Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand, we prioritize putting people at the heart of everything we do. We are responsible for the day-to-day management of our health system across New Zealand, integrating the functions of the 20 former District Health Boards into our regional divisions and district offices. Our focus is on ensuring continuity of services within the health system.
About the Team
The Canterbury Regional Forensic Mental Health Service provides essential forensic mental health services to approximately 700,000 people in the South Island of New Zealand. We offer a full range of forensic treatment settings, including medium secure and rehabilitation inpatient facilities located at Hillmorton Hospital, as well as within the community. Our services extend to the Courts, Probation, the Department of Corrections, and Outreach Services.
Our Regional Forensic Service also provides consultation and liaison to Nelson, Marlborough, the West Coast, and South Canterbury. We have two secure units and one open rehabilitation unit, offering a total of 35 inpatient beds. Additionally, we work closely with a community-based service that is funded to deliver a high level of clinical input and support for individuals transitioning into the wider community.
Positive Employee Feedback
A recent locum consultant shared their positive experience working with us: "I finish here tomorrow after 3 months in the Forensic Service. The service is well-resourced with capable multi-disciplinary teams who work hard to support our clientele and each other. The level of resourcing helps mitigate risks, making it a safe place to work. Even in just a few months, I found that psychiatrist input is highly valued by the teams. There are excellent resources available to assist non-forensic psychiatrists in getting started, and the teams were very supportive in helping me get up to speed."
About the Role
We are currently seeking a part-time, permanent Forensic Psychiatrist to join our team. In this multidisciplinary role, you will collaborate with five other Forensic Psychiatrists, providing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment in various settings, including the hospital, outpatient services, the community, the Court, and Corrections. We are open to candidates seeking part-time hours.
While previous forensic experience is appreciated, it is not a requirement. This position presents a fantastic opportunity to explore a career in Forensic Psychiatry within a supportive environment that offers supervision for any new areas of practice, including Court work and legal issues.
