Description
About the Company
At Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand, we prioritize putting people at the heart of everything we do. We lead the daily operations of our health system across New Zealand, integrating the functions of the 20 former District Health Boards into our regional divisions and district offices. Our goal is to ensure continuity of services throughout the health system.
About the Team
The Canterbury Regional Forensic Mental Health Service offers forensic mental health services to roughly 700,000 individuals in the South Island of New Zealand. Our service encompasses a full range of forensic treatment settings, including medium secure and rehabilitation inpatient facilities located at Hillmorton Hospital, as well as community-based services. We collaborate closely with the Courts, Probation, the Department of Corrections, and various Outreach Services.
Our Regional Forensic Service also provides consultation and liaison to Nelson, Marlborough, the West Coast, and South Canterbury. We operate two secure units and one open rehabilitation unit, which together offer 35 inpatient beds. Our community-based service is designed to deliver a high level of clinical input and support for individuals transitioning back into the community.
Positive Employee Feedback
We are proud of the positive experiences shared by our team members. One locum consultant recently remarked on their time with us, stating: "After three months in the Forensic Service, I can say it is well-resourced with capable multi-disciplinary teams. The risks are well-mitigated, making it a safe place to work. There are valuable resources available to assist non-forensic psychiatrists, and the teams were very supportive in helping me acclimate."
About the Role
We are currently seeking a full-time, permanent Forensic Psychiatrist to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate in a multidisciplinary context with five other Forensic Psychiatrists. Your responsibilities will include providing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment in various settings, including hospital, outpatient, community, Court, and Corrections. We are also open to candidates interested in part-time hours.
While previous forensic experience is valued, it is not a requirement. This position presents an excellent opportunity to explore a career in Forensic Psychiatry within a supportive environment, with supervision available for any new areas of practice, including Court work and legal issues.
