Description
About the Company
At Forensic Mental Health Northland, we provide a comprehensive range of services designed to support individuals within the criminal justice system. Our offerings include secure inpatient acute and rehabilitation services that connect to community rehabilitation programs, specialized services for offenders with intellectual disabilities, culture-specific programs for Māori, as well as court liaison and prison mental health services. We are proud to serve the Northland Region, including the Northland Region Corrections Facility.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Social Worker to join our Regional Forensic Psychiatry Team. This is a part-time, permanent position, working 24 hours per week from Monday to Friday, primarily based at the Northland Regional Corrections Facility in Kaikohe, with staff located in Whangarei.
As an integral member of our Forensic Service, you will provide expert advice on mental health issues related to offenders. Your responsibilities will include conducting mental health triage assessments for prisoners referred by Corrections and Health staff, as well as providing follow-up care for a caseload of individuals experiencing major mental illnesses. Given the complex mental health needs of our clients, you will work within a multi-disciplinary team to support men in a custody environment.
We are looking for a candidate who possesses excellent communication and networking skills, and who has a genuine interest in both the judicial system and the mental health challenges faced by our clients and their families. We are committed to fostering professional development through supervision, ongoing training, and encouraging membership in the ANZASW as a Registered Social Worker.
