About the Role
We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced orthoptist to join our clinical team. This is a permanent, full-time position, requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week. In this role, the successful candidate will engage in diverse orthoptic responsibilities, including work in specialized pediatric, ocular motility, and neuro-ophthalmology clinics. You will report directly to the lead ophthalmic technician and will be responsible for providing orthoptic assessments and technical assistance to our team of ophthalmologists, ensuring comprehensive care for our patients.
Key Responsibilities
You will work closely with our team of 20 specialist ophthalmologists, including 4 pediatric ophthalmologists and 2 neuro-ophthalmologists, across our main clinic and outer clinics. Your duties will include:
- Completing evaluations and treatment for both adult and pediatric patients with visual system disorders, with a focus on binocular vision and eye movement disorders.
- Evaluating the need for and fitting Fresnel and spectacle prisms, conducting convergence exercises, performing infant vision assessments, retinoscopy, and refraction.
- Providing technical assistance to ophthalmologists during patient consultations, procedures, and diagnostic tests.
- Educating and supporting patients and their families regarding their eye conditions and available treatment options.
- Potential involvement in clinical research trials, contributing to advancements in eye care.
Our Ideal Candidate
To be considered for this position, you must have the legal right to work in New Zealand. Additionally, we are looking for candidates who possess:
- 3 to 5 years of orthoptic experience.
- The ability to work independently and communicate effectively with a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Flexibility regarding working hours.
Essential Qualifications
Candidates must hold professional orthoptic qualifications, such as a Bachelor of Science in Orthoptics (BSc Orth), Bachelor of Medical Science in Orthoptics (BMedSci Orth), and/or a Diploma in British Orthoptics (DBO).
