About the Role We are currently seeking an Emergency Medicine Specialist to join our dynamic tertiary Emergency Department, with a fixed-term position available from February 2026 to February 2027. This role is part-time, at 0.8 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE), and we anticipate additional equivalent roles will become available soon. In this role, you will provide clinical care to a diverse range of patients, including both pediatric and adult populations, across various levels of acuity. You will work within a 7-day roster and participate in the on-call schedule. Additionally, you will supervise and educate junior medical staff, playing a crucial role in ensuring the efficient flow of patients through the department alongside senior nursing staff. This position reports directly to the Clinical Director of the Emergency Department. About the Team / Service / Location Our Emergency Department is located in the Waipapa building at Christchurch Hospital, which is part of our tertiary-level health service. We are proud to be one of Australasia's busiest emergency departments, treating over 130,000 patients each year. Our facility is accredited for advanced training in Emergency Medicine by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and offers a fast-paced, supportive clinical environment. About You To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and skills: - Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or an equivalent qualification - Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (for more information, visit mcnz.org.nz) - Experience in emergency care for both adults and children - Strong leadership and mentoring abilities - Proven collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary clinical setting Working at Health New Zealand We value diversity and inclusion at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, and we are dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for all New Zealanders.
