About the Role Our Intensive Care Service encompasses various critical care areas, including: - Intensive High Dependency Care, which provides tertiary trauma, neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, spinal care, and a wide range of general surgical and medical care, including pediatrics. - The Deteriorating Patient Outreach Service, which supports wards across the Christchurch Hospital Campus. - The Canterbury Air Retrieval Service, which serves the South Island region. The Christchurch Hospital ICU currently operates with a 28-bed footprint, consisting of two 12-bed ICU pods and an additional four crisis surge beds, with funding available for up to 24 ICU-capable beds. We are seeking Fellows or Medical Officers to join our ICU department on a fixed-term contract of up to two years. This role is particularly suitable for individuals who have passed or are preparing to sit the Australasian College of Intensive Care Medicine Part II Examination and possess a minimum of 18 months of Intensive Care experience. We also welcome applications from Emergency, Anaesthesia, Internal Medicine, or senior trainees from other specialties who wish to gain additional experience in Intensive Care. As a Fellow or Medical Officer, you will have the opportunity to progress to a junior specialist role with increasing responsibility and clinical autonomy based on your experience. Your duties will include assessing and managing critically ill or injured patients, as well as supervising medical and other staff. You will report directly to the Clinical Director of the Department of Intensive Care. Candidates must be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
