Description
About the Company
At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are committed to delivering exceptional healthcare services to all New Zealanders. We value teamwork, collaboration, and a patient-centered approach, ensuring that our practices are rooted in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our multidisciplinary teams work closely together to create an environment where every team member's contributions are valued and the needs of our patients are prioritized.
About the Role
We are seeking a Part-Time (0.6 FTE) New Zealand Registered Social Worker to join our team at Auckland City Hospital within the Integrated Stroke and Neurology Rehabilitation Service.
This role encompasses two distinct components. The first involves working in a dynamic, acute environment, while the second focuses on the rehabilitation unit, where the approach is more in-depth due to the complexity and extended hospital stays of patients. This position offers an excellent opportunity to apply both brief intervention and complex social work skills.
Collaboration is a cornerstone of our rehabilitation service, where social work is highly valued and plays a critical role in decision-making and shaping patient pathways. Our services cater to patients aged 15 and older who are embarking on their rehabilitation journey following events such as amputation, stroke, or neurological and degenerative diseases.
The part-time position entails 24 hours of work per week, which can be scheduled over three to five days. We are open to discussing how this can best fit into your schedule. We also encourage new graduates to apply. As part of the Adult Allied Health team, your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting comprehensive assessments and delivering innovative, outcome-focused care that applies evidence-based practices and interventions.
- Collaborating with medical, nursing, and allied health colleagues to foster strong relationships and networks with all stakeholders.
After completing a thorough orientation to your role, you will be included in the after-hours on-site and on-call rosters, which typically involve two to three shifts every three months. We provide substantial training and support tailored to after-hours responsibilities for the successful candidate.
About the Team/Service/Location
You will work in a busy and fulfilling environment alongside two other Social Workers, facilitating ongoing collaboration and learning experiences. Additionally, you will be part of the larger Adult and Women's Health social work service.

About You

- Current registration with the New Zealand Social Workers' Registration Board and a valid Annual Practicing Certificate, or the ability to obtain this before starting in the role.
- Ability to navigate complex dynamics while prioritizing the needs and best interests of patients and their whanau.
- Interest in rehabilitation practices.
- Capacity to work effectively within a bicultural hospital environment.
- A full, clean New Zealand driver's license.
