About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Ward Clerk to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Christchurch Health Campus. This is a permanent part-time role, working 24 hours per week from Tuesday to Sunday, with eight-hour shifts. The ICU at Christchurch Hospital, located in the new Waipapa facility, provides critical care services for a diverse patient demographic, including adults and children recovering from various serious conditions such as cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, and trauma.
This position has been mapped to National Band 3/Profile 3 as part of the Administration and Clerical Pay Equity Claim settlement. For more information on this settlement, please refer to the PSA National Health Administration Collective Agreement on our website.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Greeting patients and their families
- Ensuring confidentiality by confirming how patients prefer their names to be displayed
- Managing phone calls into the ward/unit
- Acting as the primary contact for the ward/unit and facilitating communication between departments
- Ordering supplies and equipment
- Managing patient bookings
- Overseeing the rostering system
- Processing patient information and maintaining records
Requirements
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Experience using a Patient Management System (desirable)
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- High levels of confidentiality
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
- A willingness to assist colleagues
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities
- Capability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines
- Openness to learning new systems and technologies
