About the Role
We are currently looking for a highly motivated and organized Clinical Administrator to join our Orthopaedics team at Burwood Hospital. Our Orthopaedics service is a busy department that offers both acute and planned elective orthopaedic surgery to the population of Canterbury and the surrounding areas.
In this full-time permanent position, you will work 40 hours per week, and your primary responsibility will be to ensure that our patient booking practices align with the standards set by Health NZ Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury and the Ministry of Health targets. You will play a crucial role in managing the booking processes for outpatient clinic appointments and elective admissions, collaborating closely with the Team Leader, Service Manager, and Clinical Director/Triaging Clinician to ensure that patients receive timely treatment in accordance with established guidelines.
As a part of the Administration and Clerical Pay Equity Claim settlement, this role has been classified as National Band 4/Profile 4A. For more information about the pay equity settlement, please refer to the relevant documentation on our website.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Performing transcription duties
- Providing excellent customer service to patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy
- Standardizing processes using the SI PICS system and Waitaha Canterbury Elective Services Guidelines
- Prioritizing patient bookings based on need and planned care requirements
- Managing outpatient and inpatient waitlists and bookings to optimize capacity utilization
- Monitoring projects and implementing improvement initiatives to support our service
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following skills and experience:
Essential:
- Exceptional customer service skills with a people-focused approach
- Proficiency in data systems and the ability to quickly learn new applications
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent typing skills, with a speed of 50-70 words per minute
- Ability to meet deadlines and work independently
- Effective coordination and multitasking abilities
- A team player with intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated perceptiveness and a proactive approach in an administrative capacity
Desired:
- Broad administrative experience in a health-related field
- Awareness of diverse cultural backgrounds
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Familiarity with transcription duties
- Experience with the public hospital system, including patient management systems
