About the Role
We are currently offering a fixed-term full-time position for an Orthoptist to cover a parental leave at Christchurch Hospital, New Zealand. This role is expected to last for up to 7 months, with working hours scheduled between Monday and Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
In this position, you will engage in both pediatric and adult orthoptic investigations, diagnosis, and management. Your responsibilities will include conducting visual fields assessments, cataract pre-assessments (IOL Master), ultrasound biometry, corneal topography, fundal and anterior segment photography, as well as general ophthalmic clinic duties.
We are looking for either a recent graduate or an experienced Orthoptist who possesses strong clinical knowledge and familiarity with ophthalmic technical equipment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate efficient and accurate work practices and have strong interpersonal skills. Christchurch Hospital serves a large area of New Zealand's South Island and is conveniently located near ski fields, offering an excellent opportunity for outdoor adventures and stunning scenery.
In this role, you will be part of a collaborative team that includes Registered Nurses, Ophthalmic Assistants, Orthoptists, Optometrists, and Ophthalmic Technicians. You will work closely with our highly skilled Ophthalmologists, specializing in areas such as Pediatrics and Neuro-ophthalmology, and gain exposure to a wide diversity of clinical practices and eye pathologies that are not commonly encountered in community settings.
About You
To be successful in this role, you should have experience with a variety of technical equipment, which will facilitate your integration into our dynamic team of allied eye professionals and nursing staff. Your work will involve assessments related to pediatric and adult strabismus, cataract assessments (IOL Master and ultrasound biometry), visual fields (Goldmann and Humphrey), corneal topography (Pentacam), OCT, Optos, and general ophthalmic duties, as well as contributions to auditing and research practices.
This fixed-term position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week.
