About the Role
We are seeking a qualified Psychiatrist for a permanent, full-time position within our Mental Health and Addictions Service at Te Whatu Ora Waikato. This role presents a unique opportunity to engage with a variety of specialists, both internal and external, while fostering strong working relationships. Each day will bring new challenges as you address a wide range of psychiatric conditions, from chronic mental illnesses to trauma, grief, and distress.
You will be part of a supportive and caring team, where your key responsibilities will include:
- Delivering high-quality clinical services to tamariki, rangatahi, and their whanau within the Waikato region.
- Applying current psychiatric knowledge and skills to clinical situations and team decision-making as a clinical expert.
- Collaborating in clinical partnerships to ensure that tangata whaiora and their whanau receive integrated, effective, and efficient assessments and care.

About the Team/Service
Our Mental Health Service for Older Persons (MHSOP) is a secondary specialist service dedicated to individuals over 65 years of age living in the Waikato District. We cater to older adults facing functional and organic conditions, as well as those with co-existing mental health and physical health needs or substance use challenges.
Our service encompasses a community team and an inpatient unit (OPR1), working cohesively to provide integrated care. We have developed strong connections with aged care facilities and prioritize family and whanau involvement in our services.
About Hamilton
Waikato Hospital, located in Hamilton, is a major regional and tertiary teaching hospital serving the Midland area, which includes the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts. With approximately 722 inpatient beds and a range of facilities including 22 operating theatres and a dedicated outpatient clinic, Waikato Hospital offers comprehensive healthcare services, including radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy.

About You
To be considered for this role, you should meet the following criteria:
- Hold vocational registration or be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Be a versatile and flexible clinician with a passion for teamwork.
- Be enthusiastic about contributing to service enhancement.
- Demonstrate a commitment to addressing health inequities.
