About the Team/Service/Location
Middlemore Hospital is the largest hospital operated by Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand. We provide secondary-level care and a variety of community and domiciliary services to the population of Counties Manukau, which spans from Otahuhu to Port Waikato.
As the main hub for acute care and referral services within CM Health, Middlemore Hospital is an accredited teaching hospital of Auckland University, catering to a diverse range of medical and surgical specialties for a catchment area of approximately 600,000 people. We also offer specialized tertiary services in areas such as orthopaedic and plastic surgery, burns, spinal injury rehabilitation, renal dialysis, and neonatal intensive care.
Acute Medicine and General Medicine at Middlemore presents a unique challenge. South Auckland has significant health needs, with high levels of socio-economic deprivation and a diverse population. This makes the experience here both complex and rewarding for those committed to caring for the most vulnerable patients. Our Acute Medicine service is evolving, focusing on the first 24 hours of patient care, emphasizing early senior-led decision-making, assessments, and management pathways.
About You
The ideal candidate will be either registered or eligible for vocational registration within the scope of General Acute Care Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand. A specific interest in Acute Medicine is essential, and prior experience as a Consultant in Acute Medicine or Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) is desirable. Please note that you will need to provide source verification of your qualifications for your registration application.
