About the Role We are seeking talented and motivated Registrars to join our Emergency Department for the 2026/2027 year. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain supervised experience in managing a wide range of acute presentations in a supportive environment. Whether you are interested in pursuing a career as an Emergency Department trainee or simply wish to broaden your clinical exposure, we welcome you to apply. As Waikato is a Level 1 Trauma Centre, you will have ample opportunity to develop your trauma experience, including procedures such as fracture management and suturing. Additionally, for advanced Emergency Department trainees, we offer the ability to fulfill all ACEM TS4 training requirements. About the Team/Service Our Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) possess expertise in various areas, including Point of Care Ultrasound, Medical Education, Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Toxicology, Trauma, and Pre-hospital Care. We also provide multiple weekly teaching sessions, which include: - Departmental Continuing Medical Education (CME) with a focus on procedural teaching and human factors - Part 1 and Part 2 teaching for trainees - 'Tweenie' teaching sessions for trainees preparing for their Part 1 and Part 2 exams - Real-time ultrasound teaching by our dedicated faculty We believe that the Waikato Emergency Department team is unique, and we strive to provide a friendly working environment with excellent clinical learning opportunities. About the Location Waikato Hospital is a major regional hospital located in Hamilton, New Zealand, serving as the regional hub for the Midland area, which includes the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts. With approximately 722 inpatient beds and 22 operating theatres, Waikato Hospital provides extensive hospital services, including radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy. As a major teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Auckland, University of Waikato, and Wintec, it offers a dynamic learning environment and access to research opportunities.
