    Description

About the Company Te Kuuwaha o te Waiora is located at 135C Silverdale Road in Hamilton and is a new service dedicated to providing an integrated and cohesive clinical and cultural model of care. Our goal is to enhance the wellbeing, dignity, and mana of tangata whaiora and their whanau. Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and aims to create a health system that effectively serves all New Zealanders. About the Role We are seeking an experienced Alcohol and Drug Clinician to join our team on a permanent basis, working 80 hours per fortnight. In this role, you will be instrumental in delivering an intensive, personalized, Māori-led, and clinically supported response to the health, cultural, and social needs of approximately 70 tangata whaiora and their whanau in the Waikato region. This population has been identified as having high needs, primarily comprising Māori individuals (about 70 percent), who are currently underserved by existing services. The term 'high need' refers to a combination of mental health and addiction issues, physical health conditions, and disabilities that result in significant impairment and disadvantage across various social, psychological, behavioral, occupational, and interpersonal domains. Your daily responsibilities will include assessing clients' readiness for change and evaluating immediate risks and safety concerns. You will also design, implement, and assess a variety of alcohol and drug groups and educational programs tailored to the strengths, needs, characteristics, preferences, and goals of each participant. About the Team Our success hinges on our ability to collaborate effectively with Kaimahi across the Waikato region, both internally and externally, to provide a flexible, community-based, multidisciplinary approach to intensive treatment and rehabilitation for tangata whaiora and their whanau. About Hamilton Hamilton is a vibrant city located alongside the picturesque Waikato River, offering a delightful blend of nature and culture. Residents can enjoy exploring the stunning Hamilton Gardens, which feature themed gardens from various parts of the world, or visiting the Waikato Museum to learn about the region's rich history. The city also boasts the Hamilton Zoo, where visitors can walk through an aviary filled with native birds. With a lively atmosphere, Hamilton offers a variety of cafes, restaurants, and bars, along with events such as rugby, cricket, and the renowned National Agricultural Fieldays and Balloons over Waikato festival. Hamilton provides an ideal environment for both living and working. About You We are looking for candidates who demonstrate competency in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or who are committed to embarking on this learning journey. You should have experience in applying the principles of Te Tiriti and frameworks, as well as Matauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly in healthcare settings. A bachelor's level qualification that qualifies for DAPAANZ full registration is required, along with a minimum of five years of work experience with high-need individuals and whanau facing significant mental health and addiction challenges. A strong desire to operate from a te ao Māori perspective, integrating cultural and clinical insights, is essential. A current full driver's license is also required. Working at Health New Zealand At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are committed to providing exceptional healthcare services to the people of New Zealand. We value a diverse and inclusive workforce, which enables us to better understand and serve our community. We encourage applications from all individuals, including those from Māori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.
