Description
Maintenance Fitter/Turner/Welder Wanted – Solid Opportunity with a Leading New Zealand Timber Manufacturer
Location: Te Puke, Bay of Plenty
What’s On Offer
We offer a competitive hourly rate between $30 and $34, with overtime paid at time-and-a-quarter after 40 hours per week. In addition, we provide allowances for night shifts and on-call duties. This role promises long-term, stable employment with a respected New Zealand manufacturer, along with development opportunities and on-the-job training. You will also become part of a supportive team culture in a safety-first environment.
About the Company
We are a well-established, family-owned timber manufacturer in New Zealand, known for our commitment to quality, innovation, and long-term investment in our people. Our operations include green and dry mills, timber kilns, a treatment plant, and a secondary processing site that produces high-quality interior and exterior timber products for both the local and export markets.
Our team consists of approximately 155 staff members working across two shifts, including a collaborative maintenance crew made up of engineers, mechanics, electricians, and apprentices. You will join a highly capable and future-focused engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for interpreting technical drawings and executing engineering project plans. You will deliver fabrication, machining, and fitting solutions for upgrades and improvements.
Your duties will include carrying out scheduled and preventative maintenance on production equipment, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical issues. You will maintain accurate records of job orders and timekeeping using Dynastar or similar systems.
Adhering to health and safety protocols, including job safety analysis (JSA) and lock-out procedures, is essential. You will also liaise with team leaders, supervisors, contractors, and other departments as needed.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking candidates with a New Zealand-recognized trade qualification as a fitter-turner or fitter-welder. You should have a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar hands-on mechanical role. Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude are essential, along with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under pressure.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must, along with a full, valid New Zealand driver’s license and at least two contactable referees. You should also have New Zealand residency or a valid New Zealand work visa.
If you are a skilled fitter-turner-welder looking for a hands-on role in a supportive, long-standing New Zealand company, or if you are ready to take the next step in your engineering career, we would love to hear from you.
