About the Role We are currently seeking a full-time Orthoptist for a fixed-term position at Christchurch Hospital to cover parental leave until March 2026. This role involves a variety of responsibilities including orthoptic investigation, diagnosis, and management for both pediatric and adult patients. You will also conduct Visual Fields assessments, cataract pre-assessments using IOL Master and ultrasound biometry, corneal topography, fundal and anterior segment photography, and general ophthalmic clinic work. We welcome applications from both recent graduates and experienced Orthoptists. The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical background, experience with ophthalmic technical equipment, and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Our facility serves a large area of New Zealand's South Island and is conveniently located near ski fields and numerous outdoor adventures, allowing you to explore the breathtaking scenery of the region. As part of our team, you will collaborate closely with Registered Nurses, Ophthalmic Assistants, Orthoptists, Optometrists, and Ophthalmic Technicians. You will also work alongside highly skilled Ophthalmologists who specialize in areas such as Pediatrics and Neuro-ophthalmology, providing you with exposure to a diverse range of clinical practices and eye pathologies that are not typically encountered in community settings. About You We are looking for a candidate with experience in using a wide range of technical equipment, which will help you integrate smoothly into our busy team of allied eye professionals and nurses. Your work will include assessments for both pediatric and adult strabismus, cataract assessments, Visual Fields testing (Goldmann and Humphrey), corneal topography (Pentacam), OCT, Optos, and general ophthalmic duties, as well as involvement in auditing and research practices. This full-time role requires a commitment of 40 hours per week.
