Description
Role: Cardiology Registrar, Waikato Hospital
Permanent Full-time
We are seeking a dedicated Cardiology Registrar to join our team at Waikato Hospital in 2025. If you have completed PGY2 or an equivalent program, this is an excellent opportunity to advance your career in a supportive and dynamic environment. At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are committed to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi while building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is focused on providing comprehensive healthcare services throughout New Zealand. Our institution values diversity and inclusivity, striving to create an environment where everyone can thrive. Waikato Hospital serves as a major tertiary referral center, providing specialized and emergency healthcare to a population of approximately 900,000.
About the Role
We invite applications for registrar positions in the cardiology department at Waikato Hospital for a six- or twelve-month term. These roles are ideally suited for Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) who have completed PGY2 or an equivalent program and possess a strong reference. Candidates preparing for the FRACP examination will find this opportunity particularly beneficial. Additionally, those who have already passed the exam and wish to undertake a cardiology run as part of their advanced training are encouraged to apply.
The cardiology department is a busy yet highly supportive environment. Our service admits around 6,000 patients annually and conducts between 3,000 to 4,000 angiograms, 1,000 angioplasties, and over 400 electrophysiological procedures each year. Our team comprises nine cardiologists and several Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) working collaboratively across four catheterization laboratories. We represent all cardiac subspecialties, including advanced imaging, electrophysiology, structural cardiology, and acute cardiology.
If you are an overseas doctor, we recommend visiting the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) website to verify that your qualifications are suitable for registration to practice medicine in New Zealand. You can access the self-assessment tool through the following link:
http://www.mcnz.org.nz/get-registered/registration-self-assessment-tool/
You will need to answer six questions to determine your eligibility for registration in New Zealand. If you require assistance with the self-assessment, please contact MCNZ by telephone at +64 4 384 7635.
