    Description

About the Company Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to building a healthcare system that serves all New Zealanders, grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our mission is to provide excellent healthcare and support for diverse communities across the nation. About the Role We are seeking an Orthopaedics Upper Limb Fellow for a one-year fixed-term, full-time position at Waikato Hospital. This post-fellowship training role is clinically focused, offering a blend of dedicated fellow and supervised consultant lists tailored to the fellow's experience and case complexity. The fellow will be an integral part of the senior 'call' roster alongside specialist trainees and is expected to actively participate in teaching junior medical staff in the department. The fellowship encompasses a wide range of upper limb surgeries, including arthroscopy, trauma, soft tissue surgeries, and arthroplasty, with a stronger emphasis on shoulder and elbow procedures rather than wrist and hand. About the Team Waikato Hospital serves as a major tertiary referral center and teaching hospital, delivering specialized and emergency healthcare to the Te Manawa Taki and Waikato regions, which collectively have a patient catchment of over 1 million people. As the only major hospital in New Zealand with all surgical specialties on one campus, we are also the primary trauma hospital for the Te Manawa Taki area. Our facility has more than 550 general inpatient beds, conducts over 34,000 surgical procedures annually in our 24-theater operating suite, and handles an average of 220 emergency department presentations each day. The Orthopaedic team consists of 19 consultants and 18 registrars, including seven trainees and three fellowship positions. Located in Hamilton, the third largest city in New Zealand’s North Island, we offer an excellent lifestyle and work-life balance. We are the largest employer in Hamilton, fostering a supportive social network around the hospital. The region is conveniently situated near both West Coast surfing and East Coast leisure beaches, with the Ruapehu ski fields just a three-hour drive away. Outdoor enthusiasts will find abundant opportunities for hiking, sailing, fishing, biking, and more throughout Waikato and New Zealand. About You We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following skills and experience: - A strong foundation in Orthopaedic skills - A collaborative team player with exceptional interpersonal abilities to build effective relationships within and outside the team - A solution-focused mindset, demonstrating mature decision-making and priority-setting in clinical settings - A passion for teaching and sharing knowledge with junior colleagues - Eligibility for registration with the New Zealand Medical Council Benefits At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we prioritize our people. We are committed to being good employers and upholding our equal employment opportunity obligations.
