About the Role
We are currently seeking a Dental Registrar to join our dedicated Dental service team at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. This position offers both full-time and part-time opportunities, including rostered on-call shifts, with placements available for a minimum of six to twelve months.
The 2026 training year begins on February 2, with mid-year starts available on August 3. In this role, you will engage in a wide range of dental care practices, including special needs dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, and management of dental trauma. You will also have the chance to collaborate with the maxillofacial service at both our facility and Hutt Hospital, allowing you to enhance your skills through procedures performed under general anesthesia and nitrous oxide sedation.
This position provides a rich blend of experiences within a multidisciplinary team environment, forming an excellent foundation for future endeavors in hospital dentistry, general practice, or specialist training. We actively support our registrars in continuing education, including preparation for the Primary Examinations through the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
About the Team/Service/Location
As a Dental Registrar, you will be part of a collaborative team that includes two Dental Registrars, four Senior Dentists, and a Dental Public Health Specialist. Your role will contribute to the hospital's out-of-hours on-call service, enhancing our capacity to provide essential dental care.
The Hospital Dental Service operates across four sites in Hastings, Napier, and Wairoa, focusing on the care of medically compromised patients, children, and individuals with complex or special needs. We offer a diverse set of clinical experiences in both outpatient and theatre settings.
You will have the opportunity to attend maxillofacial theatres and outpatient clinics, supported by a regional maxillofacial service. Additionally, you will participate in a 1:4 on-call roster, providing acute dental and maxillofacial services. Our team maintains a strong relationship with the Community Oral Health Service, engaging in community-based clinics and joint professional development.
Working within Hawke's Bay Hospital's Dental Service means being part of a positive learning environment where you will gain clinical responsibility and foster your independence as a clinician.
