About the Role
We are seeking a General Cardiologist to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis, working 80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE). In this role, you will provide inpatient cardiology care approximately one in five weeks, along with outpatient ambulatory services primarily from our base at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in Hastings. You will also serve patients at the Napier Health Centre and our rural hospitals in Wairoa and Central Hawke's Bay.
This position offers numerous opportunities to develop subspecialist interests that align with the current needs of our department and community. Our department is equipped with advanced facilities, including echocardiography, exercise treadmill testing, stress echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, ambulatory cardiac monitoring, CT coronary angiography, cardiac MRI, a diagnostic angiography laboratory, and cardiac device implantation. We also have plans to develop a part-time interventional angiographic laboratory service. Proficiency in left and right heart catheterization studies, temporary pacing wires, and pericardial drains is essential.
About the Team/Service/Location
You will be supported by a dedicated team that includes two registrars, a house officer, inpatient cardiology nursing staff, two nurse practitioners, several clinical nurse specialists, senior cardiology outpatient nurses, two cardiac sonographers, and two cardiac physiologists. We maintain close collaborations with allied health services and other specialties within our hospital, as well as our tertiary centre, Wellington Regional Hospital, which provides comprehensive care, including interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and cardiothoracic surgery.

About You
To be considered for this role, you must be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand as a Specialist Cardiologist. You should also be a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or hold an equivalent qualification.

- Cardiological procedures
- Supervision and teaching of junior medical staff
- Working within a multidisciplinary team
- Developing and maintaining effective clinical systems
- Experience in Health New Zealand environments
