About the Company Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders, grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We strive to contribute to the health and wellbeing of our South Auckland community and foster an inclusive environment that reflects the diverse population we serve. About the Role We are currently inviting applications for Specialist Anaesthetists to join our team at Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau in Auckland, New Zealand. This role offers an interesting and varied workload, where you will collaborate with a dedicated team to enhance the health outcomes of our community. As part of our anaesthesia department, you will be expected to possess a generalist skill set. However, our team also includes professionals with subspecialty training and experience, which strengthens our collective capabilities. Our anaesthetists support a wide array of surgical specialties, providing high-quality care for both elective surgeries and a busy acute workload. About the Team/Service/Location The Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine at Counties Manukau serves a culturally diverse population of approximately 600,000 people across East and South Auckland. Reflecting the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, we are committed to having a workforce representative of the communities we serve and achieving equitable health outcomes for all. Our department fosters a friendly culture of continuous improvement, with weekly morbidity and mortality meetings and an active internal education program. We are part of the ANZCA clinical trials network and are currently enrolling patients in several research studies. Our team is known for providing a warm welcome and strong support to new colleagues. Each year, we facilitate approximately 32,000 anaesthetic episodes across various surgical specialties, including general surgery, orthopaedics, urology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, burns, plastics, and obstetrics and gynaecology. We also handle a small percentage of low complexity paediatric cases and operate a tertiary obstetric centre that delivers over 7,000 babies annually. In addition to our surgical services, the anaesthetic department is increasingly involved in off-the-floor work in MRI, CT, interventional radiology, and a newly constructed gastroenterology and respiratory procedural suite, along with procedural sedation for cardiac catheterisation lab procedures. Furthermore, we provide acute and complex pain management services across our sites, with some anaesthetists participating in a busy outpatient chronic pain service. About You As an anaesthetist, you will possess a generalist skill set and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team, leveraging individual subspecialty interests and experience. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate: - Clinical experience in some or all of the areas mentioned above - Registration or eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand - A team-oriented mindset - Kindness in treating patients and staff alike - A willingness to contribute to our collective skills with diverse clinical and non-clinical interests - Readiness to engage in departmental administrative, quality assurance, and educational activities If you are not currently registered in New Zealand and hold overseas medical qualifications, you will need to provide source verification of your qualifications for your registration application.
