About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Medical Officer (Consultant) specializing in Paediatric Persistent Pain to join our dedicated team at Christchurch Hospital. This role focuses on enhancing the lives of tamariki and rangatahi across Canterbury and the West Coast through expert clinical care, collaborative teamwork, and service development.
As a Paediatric Persistent Pain Specialist, you will be instrumental in assessing and treating children and adolescents with chronic and complex pain in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Your expertise in pain medicine will support the development of an interdisciplinary team that includes psychology, psychiatry, and physiotherapy clinicians.
You will play a vital role in clinical leadership, treatment planning, education, quality improvement, and collaborative care models, with a strong commitment to ensuring equitable outcomes for Māori and other underserved populations. Developing and communicating treatment goals and plans in collaboration with the referrer, multidisciplinary team, patients, and their families will be essential to maximizing participation in daily care routines.
About the Team
Our Paediatric Persistent Pain Team operates as a values-led service dedicated to delivering whānau-centered, evidence-based care. We focus on continuous improvement, service development, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support the long-term wellbeing of our young patients across Canterbury and the West Coast.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Fellowship with the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPMANZCA) or an equivalent fellowship qualification
- Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Significant experience in paediatric chronic and acute pain management
- A collaborative and compassionate approach to patient care
- A commitment to advancing service development, research, and teaching
- Experience working in an interdisciplinary pain service is desirable
